Visibility

Who can see your recordings, songs, releases, events and playlists — inside the band and out.

Two tiers, not three

Every recording, song, release, event and playlist has a visibility setting with three options — Private, Members and Public. It is worth knowing up front that Private and Members behave identically inside your band. Everyone in the band sees every item either way, guests included, whichever of the two you pick.

The setting decides one thing: whether an item can appear outside the band. Private and Members never do. Public does — on your band page, on public playlist and release pages, and, for songs, releases and recordings of live sets, on Explore.

Private is a note to yourself, not a lock

Use Private to mark something as "not ready" so your bandmates know not to judge it yet. Do not use it to hide a file from the band — it does not do that. If something genuinely must not be seen by a bandmate, keep it out of Band Jams.

The three settings

New items start as Members. When you bulk import recordings, you can pick a level for the whole batch.

Changing it

A visibility chip or the Visibility row opens a short menu with the three options. In a ⋮ or ⋯ menu, choose Visibility, then pick one.

Item	Where to change it
Recordings and songs	Visibility in the ⋮ menu on the item page, or the Visibility row in its side panel. On the Songs list, it is also in each song's ⋯ menu.
Events and releases	The visibility chip in the page header.
Playlists	The visibility chip in the playlist header. Making a playlist public asks you to confirm.

Owners, admins and members can change the visibility of a recording, song, release or event. Guests can't. A playlist's can be changed by whoever made it, or by an owner or admin.
A recording that holds several songs can't be made Public. Make each song Public instead, and listeners hear only that song.

Filtering by visibility

Recordings and Songs: open Filters and use the Visibility section.
Releases and Playlists: use the visibility chips in the page header, or Filter on a phone.
Events: use Filter by visibility beside the calendar, or Filter on a phone.

Filtering by Public is the quickest way to check what a visitor will find before you share your band page.

Share links

Share links are for recordings, songs and setlists. To send a recording or song to one person outside the band, use a share link: it works whatever the item's visibility. Releases, events and playlists have no share links. They reach people outside the band only by being Public.

Band invites

Invites are the other direction: they bring someone into the band rather than sending one item out. Invite by email or share an invite link. People who accept join as members, and an owner or admin can change their role afterwards. Roles and what each one can do are covered in Members & Bands.

Which one do I want?

If they are joining the band, invite them. If they just need to hear one mix, send a share link — it is easier to revoke and it does not give access to anything else.

Tips

Audit before you publish

Filter each list by Public before you send your band page to anyone. That is the fastest way to see exactly what a visitor will find.

Set an expiry on anything you send outside

For demos going to a label, venue or client, a dated link is much easier to reason about later than a permanent one.

Public needs the band page switched on
