Guide

Settings

Band Settings hold your band's profile, preferences and data. Your account settings hold your own profile, appearance and password.

Two kinds of settings

Band Settings belong to one band and change it for everyone in it. Account settings belong to you and change only your own account.

Band Settings

Open Band Settings in the sidebar, under Band Management. Only owners and admins see it.

Account settings

Open your account menu (your avatar) and choose Settings. Everyone has them.

On a phone, settings open as a list of sections. On a larger screen, the sections are listed down the side and you move between them there.

Band Settings

Band Settings has these sections, in this order. Members and guests can't open Band Settings.

Band Profile

Change the avatar or cover with Upload photo or Choose from library, which picks an image from the band's gallery. Each one saves as soon as you pick it. Band Name and Description save with Save Changes. To change the band's web address, the owner uses Public Page.

Branding & Links

Brand Color is used for accents and highlights. Members who turn band colours off in their own Appearance settings see the standard colours instead. Timezone is used for event scheduling and activity timestamps. Social Links covers Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, Bandcamp and SoundCloud, next to a Website URL.

Preferences

Allow Member Invites lets members invite people. The live artwork controls set the band's default look, which members see when they turn on psychedelic mode. There's no default visibility setting: new recordings and songs always start as Members. To make the band public, use the switch on Public Page.

Members & Requests

Invitations has Invite Member and the band's pending invites. You can copy or cancel each one, and resend an email invite. Join Requests has the Allow Join Requests switch and the requests waiting for you to Approve or Decline. Roles and removals are on the Members page.

Roles & Permissions

A grid of every permission and settings section, with a tick for each role that has it. You can't edit it. To change what someone can do, change their role. See Members & Bands.

Public Page

Make band public shows a public band page and lists your band on Explore. The page editor below it has Theme, Blocks and Address tabs. Only the owner can change the address. See Public Page.

Usage & Limits

Shows the band's storage and usage: members, storage and recordings, and how much of each is used.

Export & Import

Only the owner can open Export & Import. It has two tabs, Export and Import.

Export

  • Choose Create Export. Under Include in export, pick any of Recordings, Songs, Setlists, Ideas, Calendar, Chat History and Activity Log, then choose Start Export.
  • Include audio files adds the recording files. For recordings you've enhanced, choose Enhanced version or Original upload.
  • You get an email with a download link when the export is ready. It stays available for 24 hours. Recent Exports lists each one, with Download, or Retry if it failed.

Import

  • Import accepts a Band Jams export file (.zip).
  • The Import Data dialog walks you through six steps: upload the file, review its contents, choose which data to import, match people in the export to band members, resolve conflicts and confirm.
  • For each conflict with something already in the band, choose Skip, Overwrite or Create New.
  • Chat messages and activity log entries are always imported as new entries, so importing the same export twice can duplicate them.

Deleting a band

Only the owner can open the Danger Zone in Band Settings.

  1. Choose Delete Band.
  2. Type the band's name to confirm.
  3. Choose Delete Band again.

The band disappears for all its members. To get it back, contact support.

Account settings

Your account settings have these sections. Only you can see them.

Section What it holds
Profile
Your photo, name, bio and the details bandmates see.
Appearance
Light or dark theme, band colours, and psychedelic mode.
Security
Your password.
About
The version of Band Jams you are using.
Danger Zone
Sign out, or delete your account.

Profile

The menu shows this section under your name, with a small dot until you add a photo and a name. It holds your Profile Photo, Full Name, Display Name, Bio, Influences and Website. Your display name is used in chat, comments and member lists, and defaults to your full name. Your Email can't be changed here.

While you're in a band, a Band Profile card sets your Primary Role in this Band and a Bio (band override) for that band only. Reset to global goes back to your main bio.

Appearance

Theme is Light, Dark or System, which follows your device.

The Band colours switch shows each band's own colour on buttons, highlights, waveforms and the background. Turn it off to see every band in the standard Band Jams colours, in the app and on public band pages. The band badges in your band list keep their colours. You can also turn it on or off from your account menu, and your choice is saved to your account.

The Live Artwork card has the Psychedelic mode switch. It shows animated live artwork behind the app and players, and it's off by default. You can also turn it on or off by long-pressing the Band Jams logo, or from your account menu. Your choice is saved to your account. While it's on, you can pick a Preset, fine-tune it, turn on Reduce motion, choose Artwork strength and Quality, and set Custom colours. Anything you leave alone follows your band's default look.

Artwork strength

How much of the artwork shows behind the page.

  • Readable: Softest artwork; small text reads like it does with the art off.
  • Balanced: More artwork showing; small grey text is a little harder to read. This is the default.
  • Bold: Strongest artwork; small grey text gets hard to read.

Your choice also applies on public pages you open on the same device.

Quality

Auto, High or Ultra. Auto adapts to your device. High and Ultra look sharper but use more power.

If your device can't keep the artwork moving smoothly, or it has reduced motion turned on, you see the same artwork as a still picture instead.

Security

If you sign in with a password, you change it here. Enter your Current Password, a New Password and Confirm Password, then choose Update Password. A new password needs at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter and one number. Two-factor authentication isn't available.

The sign-in page also offers Google and GitHub, and Forgot password? if you can't remember yours.

About

Shows the version of Band Jams you're using, with its commit and build date. Copy copies them, which helps when you report a problem.
